I thought my skin would be less oily as I age (54F), but I have so much trouble keeping my nose from looking like an oil slick by the time I'm leaving for work or outings, and my pores seem larger than ever. My whole T Zone is oily and I blot it several times a day. I'd appreciate any advice on skincare & makeup products, as well as a good routine for my issues and age. I went to an esthetician recently & she used a machine that allowed her to look at my skin up close (frightening!) & she said my pores are really clogged (I spray tan btw)--& she said I should use toner & add a liquid exfoliant. My derm, who hasn't looked at my facial skin up close- told me to keep it simple.. NO toner--just cleanse, Vit C, moisturizer & sunscreen--but no advice re the oily T Zone issue & suggested I see an esthetician.
TLDR:Even if you want to skip my current product list & just suggest products/routines that help with very oily T Zone whether skincare or makeup, I'm all ears! I'm using (in this order):
- Cetaphil gentle exfoliating SA Cleanser (sometimes alternate w/ CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser, Daily Face Wash for Oily Skin)
- Dickinson's Enhanced Witch Hazel Hydrating Toner with Rosewater
- Good Molecules Yerba Mate Wake Up Eye Gel (looking for something else re dark circles-genetic)
- Timeless Coenzyme Q10 Serum
- The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
- Timeless Vitamin C Serum 20% with Vitamin E & Ferulic Acid
- CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion w/SPF 30, Oil-Free Face Moisturizer (but have used a gel moisturizer on and off as I read better for oily skin)
At night, I cleanse & use Timeless Matrixyl Synthe 6 Serum, COSRX Snail Mucin 92% Face Moisturizer, eye cream (variety), I'm experimenting with retinol & trying sandwich method so I put thick CeraVe moisturizing cream on top of retinol (.05%) the few times I've used it (still peeled). I also started using a liquid BHA exfoliant recently but read not to use on nights I use retinol.
Makeup: I've tried high end mattifying primers that haven't helped a lot but I'm open to suggestions. I've read in various subs that One size Oil Sucker primer is great but it's expensive. I'm leaning toward Paula's Choice Shine Stopper if anyone has thoughts on that or other mattifying makeup products.
Based on posts I've read for shiny nose/oily T Zone, I'm considering using 10% Salicylic Acid serum but is that too strong for daily use? Thoughts on Glycolic acid? I've read a lot about Paula's Choice 2% BHA exfoliant. Any suggestions?
Sorry this is so long-thanks in advance for any product advice, tips and tricks to get rid of the oil slick, or at last manage it better. Thanks!
