skin after 55 feels like a different organ

i’m 58. menopause was about six years ago and my face did not get the memo that i still moisturize every night. cheeks look flatter. jawline is softer. makeup sits in lines it never used to. turnover is slower too. i can tell because a dry patch hangs around for days now.

routine is boring on purpose. cream cleanser, a plain moisturizer, mineral spf. i tried retinol every other night last winter and my barrier just quit. redness around the mouth, tightness, the works. stopped it. i miss the firmness more than i miss the “anti-aging” pitch.

ordered a serum for mature skin that uses nad+ and a precursor instead of another acid. fragrance-free, no sting when i pressed it on damp skin. using it on face, neck, and jawline at night. not expecting a facelift. i care whether density comes back at all.

how long did it take before your skin felt thicker, not just softer? and if you still use retinoid, do you put it on a different night or layer after the serum?
